Today in History, Elizabeth I Crowned Queen Of England

Today is the day that Queen Elizabeth I stepped into the light and became Queen of England. I say it was the day she stepped into the light because prior to becoming queen she was always in the dark shadows of the Tudor court. 451 years later she still is such a fascinating woman.

"I will be as good unto ye as ever a Queen was unto her people. No will in me can lack, neither do I trust shall there lack any power. And persuade yourselves that for the safety and quietness of you all I will not spare if need be to spend my blood." (Elizabeth to the Lord Mayor and people of London on the eve of her Coronation)

"I will have here but one mistress and no master.
" (Elizabeth to Robert Dudley)

  1. It was also the anniversary of her father being named Supreme Head of the Church of England. Ironic? :)

  4. Not to give you too much detail yet, Lizzy, on the next book I'm working on, but...I just got done writing about Elizabeth I's coronation -- from the perspective of the person responsible for all of the planning and making sure nothing went wrong. And, of course, something will indeed go very, very wrong. :)
