Today it seems like something is up with Bloggers Draft and  I am not able to upload my own images . Since for some reason it is not  working  I had to use the new Amazon feature that was recently added to get to cover art  put in.  Looks like another wonderful Monday.... not, it is raining here and kids are going back to school today. This is not a big mailbox this time but I figured it is at least interesting. I only reccived one book this past week and it is from the author who just so happenes to be a Oregonian just like me.

I Serve: A Novel of the Black Prince"I Serve, A Novel of the Black Prince" by Rosanne E. Lortz

"A Tale of Arms, of Death, of Love, and of Honor.
Set against the turbulent backdrop of the Hundred Years' War, I Serve chronicles the story of Sir John Potenhale. A young Englishman of lowly birth, Potenhale wins his way to knighthood on the fields of France. He enters the service of Edward, the Black Prince of Wales, and immerses himself in a stormy world of war, politics, and romantic intrigue.

While campaigning in France, Potenhale develops an interest in Margery, a spirited lady-in-waiting with a close-kept secret. He soon learns that Sir Thomas Holland, a crass and calculating baron, holds the key to unlock Margery's mystery and possesses the power to overturn all of his hopes.

When the Black Death strikes Europe, however, Potenhale realizes that the fiercest enemy does not always appear in human form. Seeing the pestilence as a punishment for the sins of his generation, he questions his calling as a knight and considers entering the cloister. Margery or the monastery? Torn between losing his soul and losing the love of his life, he finds friendship with a French knight who might--just possibly--help him save both".

  1. I like the sound of this novel, though i have never read anything based in that period. I hope you enjoy it, it does sound interesting. You can check out my mailbox here.

  2. The novel seems interesting, though it looks as if it requires a lot of knowledge of this particular period to be fully appreciated.

  3. I SERVE sounds like a good book. The plague sweeping through Europe and England changed so many lives and even the structure of society itself. I'll be looking for this book.
Thank you for the link to Brandy Purdy's site. There were some interesting posts.

  4. Bookventures, I am a sort of newbie to that period too. My first read in that period was Karen Harper, The First Princess of Wales, man I LOVED that book. Since Harper's book I have been looking for more later in the Black Princes life. I hate to say this but Within the Hollow Crown just is not doing it for me but who knows I might change my mind by the time I finish it.

Nikola, That is the feeling I am getting now with Within the Hollow Crown. It is like I am missing a bunch of things. I read the fist page of I Serve and holy goodness talk about a great start, it has a part of the actual knights code. But I think of nothing but William Marshal! He has blinded me with his hottness.

Librarypat, I really can not wait for this one and Watermark both are very interesting subjects and time periods. Cool I am glad you went to Brandy's page I love her kitty pictures they are so cute and down right funny.

  5. Ooh, I Serve, A Novel of the Black Prince sounds really good! I agree Lizzy, nothing compares to William Marshall..sigh... :)

  6. Muse, William has tainted, me sigh. Why can they not all be like him? We can dream right?

  7. I can't wait to see what you think of I Serve. It sounds good, but I already have so many others to get to.

  8. Amy, I feel your pain but I just could not pass it up.
