It has been over five years since my last post and I regret that I have not come back with good news. I was informed as per social media that my beloved friend and author C.W. Gortner has passed away. It has taken me a few days to compile my thoughts and I find myself still at a loss for words.
Over the many years of writing book reviews I have been blessed to have the opportunity of making friends with some of the most creative & unique people. Some friendships did not last the test of time and some held strong. Christopher was one of the first authors I became friends with and his novels deeply impacted me over the years.
Christopher was not just a gifted author of amazing historical novels. He was so much more than that. He loved animals and had a gift for rescuing sweet stray kitties that found him. He loved his mama more than life itself and was a devoted husband. He was well known for his Facebook posts because he had an opinion and was not afraid to share it. Over the years I thoroughly enjoyed how he used social media as a way to encourage others to discuss current affairs and social issues. I admired his gift for seeing people as they are. Not what they could be, should be or what others thought they should be.
Our friendship has carried on for well over a decade and I will miss him terribly. I am not the only one. I have seen an outpouring of love from all of the historical fiction community for Christopher. He touched many people and it seems everyone has a story about him. His good hearted loving nature and sassy opinions will be greatly missed.
"I will never forget those who came with a lamp when I was in the dark. Not to fix me, but to sit beside me until I could see again".
To honor our beloved C.W. Gortner I have compiled a list of all of my past posts on him. Please feel free to read through my posts on him. I promise he does not disappoint and he always had something interesting to bring to the table. I put my favorite posts at the top.
