Sundays Art: Fairest Maid in the land Joan of Kent

Hello everyone! I just had to share my new piece I just finished. I was inspired by Karen Harper's "The First Princess of Wales". This is my Joan of Kent on her wedding day. I kept to how Karen described her in the book because it was best fitting.

My media on this was first regular pencil, and then color pencil. I finished her off with some

I am dying to ask if anyone out there has ever met anyone with striking violet eyes?

  1. Oh my gosh Lizzy - you are so talented! I hope you will share more of your art with us. I haven't met anyone with violet eyes, but I have seen Anne Neville (wife of Richard III) described as having them in novels. Maybe they are considered exotic or something!

  2. Thank you so much Daphne. I will share more as I do more. Something about reading about beautiful ladies has triggered in my mind how they would all look. Karen's description of how she looked made it easy to put it to paper. I never have either, must be exotic. That is why I had to ask.

  3. That is gorgeous! What did you make the picture with? The colors are so brilliant! I don't know anything about Joan of Kent but she is beautiful.

  4. I always start with pencil for the basics. Then color pencils. I have a brand of color pencil that I love called Prisma Colors. They are really expensive but they have a deep rich color with a gloss that glides like butter when you color. Crazy is for the big box which I will probably never own it is $100 for like 50 pencils. I wanted it more vibrant when I was done with the pencil so I used pastel in her hair for highlights and that made it pop. I swear it is those expensive pencils, they work great. It has been a dream since high school to own the big box of pencils. While other dream of riches and other lavish things I dream of art supplies and books.

  5. While you dream of art supplied, I dream of expensive Tudor Era books!!
I feel silly for mentioning: since u probably know: but just in case.. Michaels Arts & Crafts puts out 40% coupons a few times a month (check online too) & at Thanksgiving they put out 50% off coupons. Something to put on your calendar. I used to be an assistant manager there & those pencils were shoplifted a lit which was very frustrating.
I enjoy your artwork, I loved your Lettice also.

  7. So pretty! Love it. I'm a fan of the Prisma Colors brand too. For my most recent birthday, my dad gave me a beautiful box set I'd had my eye on for a while...it was by far my favorite gift. If you're a fan of the pencils you should try the watercolor pencils too! They're really fun to mess around with. I have The First Princess of Wales on my TBR list, and this provides such a beautiful illustration! Thanks for sharing with us =)
